From the time I was a young boy I’ve enjoyed drawing racecars. As time has moved on my tools have gotten more sophisticated than crayons and markers, but the passion and enjoyment I get from drawing up a quick racecar is the same. The livery, or paint scheme, of a racecar is one of my favorite things to concept. A good racecar livery should be vibrant, distinctive, work with the features of the car and clearly convey the brand image of the sponsor. When done right a racecar livery can become iconic. Think of the Gulf liveried cars racing at LeMans, the Marlboro liveries in F1 and Indycar, the DuPont rainbow scheme for Jeff Gordon, or the Martini racing stripes in F1 and sportscars. These cars are all instantly recognizable and stand out amongst their competitors. Below is a sampling of some fantasy racecar liveries I’ve created.
